യാത്രക്കു മുമ്പ് ഒത്തിരി തയ്യാറെടുക്കണമായിരുന്നു.
അതിൽ ഒന്ന് ഒരു വൃത്തിയുള്ള റയിൽവേ മാപ്പ് സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു. പി ഡി എഫ് ഡൗൺലോഡു ചെയ്ത്, പല ഷീറ്റുകളിൽ പ്രിൻ്റു ചെയ്ത് ഒരു പഴയ മുണ്ടിൽ ഒട്ടിച്ചെടുത്തു. (അതാണ് മക്കൾ വീഡീയോയിൽ കാണിക്കുന്നത്) യാത്രയിലുടനീളം ഞങ്ങൾ ഈ മാപ്പ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് വഴികൾ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയതും, നദികളും കടന്നു പോകുന്ന സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളും തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞതും, സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഉയരം അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തിയതും മറ്റും. ഗൂഗിൾ മാപ്പും ഉപയോഗിച്ചെങ്കിലും ഒറ്റയടിക്ക് രാജ്യം മൊത്തം കാണാവുന്ന ഈ ഭൂപടത്തിൻ്റെ ഒരു സുഖം ഒന്നു വേറെ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു.

യാത്രക്കു വേണ്ട ബാഗുകൾ, മക്കൾ അച്ഛൻ്റെയടുത്തു നിന്ന് അധികം ദൂരെ പോയാൽ ശബ്ദമുണ്ടാക്കുന്ന ട്രാക്കർ, അങ്ങിനെ അല്ലറ ചില്ലറ കുറേ സാധനങ്ങൾ പലയിടത്തു നിന്നായി സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു. ചിലതൊക്കെ അവിടന്നും ഇവിടന്നും പരീക്ഷിച്ചു നോക്കി. (ഡെക്കാത്തലോണിൽ പോയി ജാക്കറ്റു പരീക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ചിമ്മിയെ കണ്ടില്ലെ? അതു പോലെ)

കൊണ്ടു പോകേണ്ട സാധനങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങൾ ‘സ്റ്റേജിംഗ് ഏരിയ’യിലേക്കു അടുപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു. സാധാരണ ദിവസങ്ങളിലെ അച്ഛൻ്റെ ജോലി, മക്കളുടെ കളികൾ, മറ്റു പരിപാടികൾ… ഇതിനൊക്കെ ഇടയിലായിരുന്നു ദിവസങ്ങൾ നീണ്ടു നിന്ന ഈ തയ്യാറെടുപ്പ് മഹാമഹം.

Traveling this far for the first time that too without the mother being with us.

Our preparation was a bit elaborate.
Part of the preparation was to get a railway map. We downloaded the PDF, printed and stuck it together on an old ‘Mundu’. That is the map the kids are proudly displaying in the video. We used this map throughout the journey to identify the states and rivers, also marked the altitude from time to time. Google map was handy too, but it never gave the experience of seeing the entire country at one glance.

We procured little things like bags, electronic trackers for the kids, etc. We tried out some stuff like the jacket Chinmayi sheepishly trying from Decathlon.

While going on with our routine days of working, playing, and other things, we brought together various things for the trip to our ‘staging area’.
